This course is designed to help students prayerfully study the teachings of Dallin H. Oaks and receive their own witness through the Holy Ghost that he is a prophet of God. Through carefully selected talks spanning several decades, we will examine how President Oaks teaches difficult and important topics—including love and law, tolerance, divorce, race and the priesthood, women and priesthood authority, moral agency, and discipleship—with clarity, doctrine, compassion, and Christlike love. My hope is that students will come away not only with a deeper understanding of gospel doctrine but with a greater appreciation for how truth and charity work together in the ministry of Jesus Christ.
For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of teaching seminary and institute in Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah. My wife, Anadine, and I are the parents of five children—three daughters and two sons. Two of our daughters are married and expecting baby girls, our third daughter is engaged, our oldest son is currently serving in the Fukuoka Japan Mission, and our youngest son is preparing to serve. Anadine works for CharityVision, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring curable sight impairment around the world through cataract surgeries, glasses, and sustainable eye care programs. She works tirelessly to help people receive needed care and frequently travels internationally to support and visit these programs. As a family, we love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and spending time in nature together. More than anything else, my greatest joy in life is my family and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
